However, it feels light on actual SEO functions. The app claims to use its own crawler to scan your pages to find issues which it then helps you fix for technical SEO and claims to use an ‘algorithm’ of some kind to help you write better SEO content. It is the only app on our list to even mention the Robots.txt functionality.

12. Ultra SEO
This app doesn’t really live up to its name “Ultra”, however, what it does do it does well. Ultra SEO gives you the ability to add various meta tags across your site including meta tags that might be missed by other SEO Shopify apps such as the meta keywords tag and author tag. I do not consider either of those a bonus of valuable for SEO usage at the moment, so this wouldn’t be used or recommended by me personally, however, if that is your need then this is a good fit for you. The price point is at the low end of more full SEO suites too, but if you’re trying to combine various apps with different SEO features instead of using a bundled suite this one should at least be on your list to consider as it would pair well with a standalone image optimization, JSON-LD, and sitemap app.

While the tools are a nice addition, this app is lacking some SEO features others include.

18. Image Optimizer & SEO Audit
This app was created by the agency StoreYa which sells services to ecommerce merchants to help their marketing. While it claims to be an SEO audit tool, the reality is that this app just performs an image optimization (compression) for the images on your website to help it load faster. Of course, for the price of Free that might be enough for many merchants out there. However, if you’re serious about SEO I would use an app that charges for image optimization services, it should be more reliable in the long-run.

19. Plug In SEO
Like other Shopify SEO suites this one claims to automate a lot of your SEO and claims to be the “Yoast” of Shopify SEO apps. While the app appears to function well my biggest concern here is that Plug In SEO does not come with image compression or resizing tools (they have a different app for that) and that they also operate as an extremely cheap SEO “agency” with rates far below the typical cost from actual SEO experts in the field. The company behind this app is also not an SEO agency, but an app development company. Typically this is a warning sign that that the agency might not perform the highest-level SEO for a website and is likely outsourcing or “drop servicing” this to low cost practioners. If you’re an SEO agency or consultant you might also want to avoid using this one to keep from either losing your client to a low cost churn and burn SEO team or to avoid your client getting conflicting advice/insights. This is about their app though and since I do not have any first-hand knowledge of their SEO work and results I cannot really speak for it.
The reviews for this app that are negative are typically all for the paid plans or the SEO work provided and all appear to have an issue that would keep me from using this app both personally and as an SEO professional. If it does what it says it does this is probably a decent option, especially if you already have an image compression / speed optimizing app installed or you want to take the risk of hiring their low-cost SEO agency (which it seems only works with their app). If both are quality it could be a big win for a small ecommerce merchant.

This is a local business data aggregator like Yext or Bright Local. If you’re not a local business then you don’t need to consider this app. However, the price point is far less expensive than most other aggregators, if the listings are quality it could be worthwhile. Users should also be aware that an app like this like uses an API connection to get your business data listed across the web and if you stop paying those websites might remove your data. Instead of paying this app’s monthly fee, if you have the time you could just make accounts on each website and submit your data there manually.

This app performs automated checks on your site (they call these an audit) and either provides tips on how to fix them or does the SEO work for you. Their price point is astoundingly low, as in below market price in nearly every country on Earth for SEO services, so I would be extremely skeptical of the quality of work. However, if they are just making small technical fixes it could be worth it allowing you to focus on other SEO items.

By now everyone knows the pros and cons of Google’s AMP. For starters it is not an SEO requirement nor do AMP pages outrank standard HTML pages in Google’s engine. I am not a fan of AMP in general but also not really for ecommerce websites. However, if you find you need AMP or want to test it, this is pretty much the only app I would consider using.

This app doesn’t provide a lot of core functionality for SEO but instead claims to add things like a competitor research tool and keyword rank tracking. The app also claims to “Get New Keywords for your Webs”. Honestly it doesn’t appear to be of much usage and looks like an attempt at competiting against Ahrefs, SEMrush, and Moz. I would recommend just purchasing an SEO tool suite if that is your need as it will be less expensive in most cases and higher quality.
