Facebook Ads Now Has a “360 Mode” for Videos With Spherical Metadata

Recently Akvile DeFazio, President of AKvertise and an excellent Facebook Ads consultant, noticed a new feature in Facebook Ads Manager for 360° videos with so called “spherical metadata”. While the terminology might not be familiar, the experience probably is. This is when a video (or photo) has properties that allow a user to navigate around inside of it. Some of these are full 360° experiences like those mentioned in my 360° photo journal, but others only have a small amount of movement.

Numerous devices and smartphones today can take photos and videos that have spherical properties and add this metadata into the content, in some cases you may not even realize the spherical properties are there until the content is uploaded to a social or hosting platform.

I have to agree with Akvile, especially since they changed their corporate parent’s name to “Meta”, there is an extremely likely chance that Facebook is trying to nudge marketers and advertisers towards using fully immersive VR content for advertising in the very near future.

Definitely recommend experimenting with this new feature on Facebook Ads and seeing how effective it is compared to your normal ads.

If you need a Facebook Ads agency we recommend giving Akvile and AKvertise a call, or of course we’d love to help you too. Our Facebook Ads service comes with creative consulting, management, and reporting. AKvertise offers similar services and also offers training for your team.
